Creating a new course "from Scratch"

With this option, courses are created from the ground up

Three basic elements are needed when creating a new course from scratch:

  • Title: that is, the title you want to give the lesson. This title will also be the one SharePoint page’s one

  • Description: which is a short description of the course

  • Category : allows you to summarize in a word what the course will be about. The tool allows you to select pre-existing categories, for example: company safety, company quality, people, company procedures etc

  • Document language: the language in which the course will initially be generated (later we will look at how to translate the course into multiple languages

To create the lessons, you must click on the “Draft" button and a page like the following will open:

In this case you will see the page empty because you will be the one to create the lessons.

How to put lessons inside a "from-scratch" course:

To create lessons click on "Actions" at the top right of the screen and then click on "New Lesson".

Since we’re using the option “create from scratch”, we will only be able to create lessons from scratch.

When creating a lesson, you can specify the following elements:

1.The Lesson type

2.The Title

3.The Description

4.Upload a photo or embed a content

1. For the type of lesson you have five choices:

  • Text

  • Bullet points

  • Quiz

  • Flashcards

  • Audio

Audio option is valid only for Text and Bullet Points and allows you to create a lesson only with audio i.e. without text.

The Text modality has three elements:

  • Audio only , this is optional and allows you to have only the audio without the text

  • Title of the lesson, this is compulsory, and it corresponds to the title of the lesson

  • The Description of the lesson, also this is compulsory, here you must put the explanation of the lesson. This is going to be the paragraph

The Bullet Points modality has three elements:

  • The Title, this is compulsory, and it corresponds to the title of the lesson

  • The Introduction, this is compulsory and gives the opportunity to have a little introduction of the lessons' topic

  • The list of bullet points, here please put the bullet points

When entering bullet points it is important to remember to click the "Add" button otherwise the points will not be added.

The Quiz modality consists of several elements:

  • The Title, this is compulsory, and it corresponds to the title of the lesson

  • The Question,this is compulsory and is the question you want to pose to the user

  • The Aswers, you must enter at least two different answers

  • The Correct anwer expanation , this is compulsory, and it is an explanation of the correct answer

The Flash Card modality has three elements:

  • The Title, this is compulsory, and it corresponds to the title of the lesson

  • The Question, this is compulsory and is the question you want to pose to the user

  • The Answer, this is compulsory and is the answer to the question

  • The Explanation, this is compulsory, and it is an explanation of the answer

With the flashcard modality, unlike the Quiz modality, you have just one answer and the user will choose when to see the answer and the explanation in SharePoint by clicking in the little arrow on the right (as shown in the picture).

You can choose to scroll between question, answer and explaination with the arrows.

In general beside the type of lesson you want to generate, by going on the left side of the lessons’ box you can upload different files such as: images, animated gifts, or embedded video.

Remember that you can only modifiy the lessons by cliking on the " Edit " left button on the lesson's panel.
