What is Anniversaries

With this web part, you can choose whether to display company anniversaries or birthdays on the SharePoint intranet.

Every day on the intranet, you can see the anniversaries or birthdays of the day, the week, or the month.

For both anniversaries and birthdays, the display for end-users includes:

  • Display of the colleague's photo if uploaded to the 365 system

  • Display of the colleague's name and surname

  • Display of the colleague's birthday/company anniversary

  • There will also be a short text, like "Celebrates 27 years"

The web part can be configured so that when you click on a user's profile image, you'll reach their detailed personal profile. Alternatively, when clicking on the user's photo, you can open a Teams chat with a pre-set message to wish them happy birthday or congratulate them on the milestone achieved.

Proceed with reading the guide to discover how to configure all these options.

Add the Anniversaries web part to a page

  • If your page is not already in edit mode, click Edit at the top right of the page.

  • Click on it and, in the web part search box, enter Birthdays to quickly find and select the Anniversaries web part, which is named "IAI - Birthdays".

Configuration

View settings

The view settings allows you to customize the appearance of your application by adjusting various layout settings.

By opening this first configuration, you will see the following options:

  • Do you want to hide the background? You can choose to hide or display the webpart background The default setting is “No”. This means that, by default, the webpart is characterized by a white background. If you enable this option, the white card background will be completely removed, allowing the content appear directly on the page. As a result, the webpart will be transparent, showing either the selected background image or the chosen SharePoint page color.

  • Do you want to hide the background shadow? You can choose whether to show or hide the background shadow. The default setting is “No”. This means that, by default, the webpart is characterized by a subtle depth effect that can make the webpart stand out more against the rest of the page. If you enable this option, the shadow behind the background will be removed, giving the web part a flatter, cleaner look without any depth.

  • Select the type of background shadow If you decide to set the background shadow, a further configuration will appear and you can select the style from High Contrast, Light, or Dark options.

    • If you select High contrast, this option creates a strong, bold shadow effect that provides a high level of contrast between the background and the content.

    • By choosing the Light background shadow, it will create a soft and subtle effect, giving a more delicate and gentle depth to the background.

    • Finally, the Dark background shadow style provides a darker, more intense effect, adding depth and emphasizing the background even more.

  • Do you want to hide the title? Here you can select whether to show the webpart title or hide it. If set to visible, the web part title will appear on the left side.

  • Do you want to hide the title icon? Use this setting to customize the visibility of the title icon. If set to Yes, the cake icon will be displayed. If set to No, the icon will be hidden.

Here you can customize some elements of the web part.

  • WP title: here you can customize the name of the web part, which appears next to the icon. If you leave this field blank, the default name will be used: "Birthdays".

  • Decide whether to leave all views active (today anniversaries, next week anniversaries, or next month anniversaries). By default, they are all active.

If you want to disable one of these three options, simply click on the flag.

  • Then choose how to rename the three sections. By default, they are named

    • "Today section"

    • "Next week section"

    • "Next 6 months section"

If you don't like these names, write the name you would like the user to see on the intranet in the corresponding box.

Lists settings

The Anniversaries web part allows you to celebrate together the years spent with the company by your colleagues. A moment of discovery and sharing that will stimulate the visibility of the SharePoint intranet and bring joy to those reaching these milestones.

If you choose to display anniversaries, through an automatic sync with the Hire Date field in Azure AD, users can see when colleagues celebrate a new work milestone.

You can choose the frequency of anniversaries (every year, every 5 years, every 10 years, or the preferred time frame).

Discover how to configure the web part.

  • If you're not in edit mode already, click Edit at the top right of the page.

Enter the site URL where the Birthdays list has been installed (usually on the hub site).

For example: https://intranetai.sharepoint.com/sites/my-hub/

  • Choose the Birthdays list.

Profile opening

You can enable users to visit the personal profile of colleagues celebrating their anniversaries by setting a link to the My Profile page in the dedicated box.

You can also choose whether to open the profile page in the current tab or a new one. If you choose New page, the My Profile page will open in a new browser window.

With this box, you can also use it to enable users, when clicking on a colleague, to open a Teams chat with a pre-set message instead of opening the personal profile.

If you want to change the pre-set message, you just need to modify everything in the string written after the equals sign (=).

Customizations

In the Customizations section, you can customize some elements of the web part.

  • No items message: thanks to this box, you can change the text that appears when there are no anniversaries to display in a section. If you leave this field blank, the default text will be used: "No birthdays to display".

  • Show years span: if you activate this option, a text of this kind will appear under the user's name: "Celebrates 27 years" (see picture below).

  • Hide full date: you can decide to hide or show the birthday/anniversary date, which will appear under the user's name (see picture below).

  • Years span: finally, you can set a specific year span, e.g., you can decide to display anniversaries every five years. In such a case, the current year will not be included.

  • Do you want to choose how many cards to display? If this option is set to On, an additional setting will appear allowing you to select the number of cards to show.

Birthdays settings

If you decide to show birthdays on the intranet, all your colleagues' birthdays will be displayed. How?

  • You can choose whether to perform a bulk import of dates (make sure that your privacy policy allows for this option).

  • Alternatively, you can decide to sync the component with the personal profile.

By choosing this second method, every time users enter their birthday in their personal profile and leave the Make it visible to your colleagues flag active, it will be recorded and then displayed on the Anniversaries web part. You can choose to display only the day and month of the birthday on the home page, excluding the display of the full date (MM, DD, YYYY).

Set default Team message

If you want to allow users to send wishes or congratulations to colleagues celebrating, you can proceed as follows:

You can use the Profile opening box to enable users, when clicking on a colleague, to open a Teams chat with a pre-set message instead of opening the personal profile.

Attention: choose whether to enter the link to the personal profile page or use the box for sending wishes and congratulations.

Write in the box this path:

Click the Edit properties button on the left of the web part to open the property pane and set options. See below for more information on each of these options.

Icon name: by default, the web part is set to display birthdays, so you will see that the web part icon is a cake. If you want to change it, use to find the icon you prefer. Copy the link you see when hovering over the icons, and then paste the icon name into the dedicated box.

Select the Anniversaries web part, then click Edit properties button on the left side of the Anniversaries web part.
