Add the Intranet Tour web part to a SharePoint page

  • If your page is not already in edit mode, click on Edit at the top right of the page.

  • Click on it and, in the web part search box, enter Tour to quickly find and select the Tour web part.

The guided tour can be set up on any page of the SharePoint intranet. As its function is to explain the elements that make up a page, it is recommended to set it up on the home page and on pages that are rich in functionalities and applications.


Configuration

Layout settings

In this section, you can customize the graphic aspects of the web part and configure the tour steps.

  • First of all, in the Button title of the guided tour field, you can insert a title for the tour button. This is the title that will be displayed in the label of the tour button, which is located at the top right of the page where you have set up Intranet Tour. If you leave this field empty, the label will display the default title, which is “New intranet’s functionalities”.

  • Click on Configure tour steps to configure the different steps of the guided tour. A panel with different boxes will appear. Here, you need to select the web parts that make up the page e enter the descriptions you want to be displayed. Below is a detailed guide to this part of the configuration:

  • Use the drop-down menu to choose the web part you want to describe. The menu proposes the different web parts of the page in the order in which they have been added to the page.

  • Enter a descriptive text that explains the functions of the web part.

  • Choose the order in which each step will be shown.

  • Leave the Enabled box flagged so that the step will be shown in the guided tour.

  • To add a new step, click on the + button: a new line will appear. Repeat the process until you complete the configuration, and when you are done, click on Save.

  • You can also choose the background color of the tour button. You can either type the hex color code or choose a color directly from the panel.

  • To customize the button font color, you can either type the hex color code or choose a color directly from the panel.

  • Finally, you can choose where exactly to display the button by changing the distance of the button from the right on your desktop and in Teams.

Visibility settings

The guided tour starts automatically the first time you access the intranet, then it does not start automatically anymore (however, you can always start it by pressing the tour button at the top right of the page). In case you want to activate it again, the tour will start automatically the next time a person logs in, even if they have already seen it. To do so, click on Invalidate cookies and republish the page.

The pictures below show an example of guided tour. Use the right arrow to move on to the next step and the left arrow to go back to the previous one.

Please note: Intranet Tour is visibile only if you access the intranet via web, and not via Teams. This means that it does not work with Viva Connections, because the component relies on cookies to function properly.
